WHY IS PROLINE CONCENTRATION RELEVANT

Temperature heat, and salt stress are signifiant limiting variables in crop production.

To combat these stresses, plants accumulate N-rich solutes such as amino acids through a process called thermal acclimation. These solutes help the stress tolerance of plants because they act as osmolytes.

An osmolyte is a molecule that accumulates in plant cells to balance the osmotic difference between the cells' surroundings and the cystol (liquid found in cells). This osmotic adjustment is what allows plants to maintain water relations under stress. These osmotic agents favor the opening of the stomata increasing the rate of photosynthesis. 

The increase in concentration of solutes comes from the breakdown of functional proteins within the plant. This cannibalism rapidly slows down/stops plant growth.

Lead Proline content is an excellent indicator of plant stress. It also highlights the importance of amino acids in plants as a vital tool to effectively diagnose and treat plant stress. 

NUTRIMINE'S EFFECT ON PROLINE CONCENTRATION

Nutrimine is a concentrated source of low molecular weight N-rich solutes. All solutes are smaller than 230 daltons, ensuring rapid uptake and transmission within the cells of plants 

External applications of Nutrimine dramatically reduce the plant's need to accumulate proline through protein breakdown. As a result, Nutrimine can sustain growth in periods of stress.

Plants treated with Nutrimine have a greater tolerance to stress and as a result are more productive durning these periods. 

NUTRIMINE AND SALT STRESS

Salt causes the soil water potential to progressively decrease, hampering the typical water flow from roots to shoot. This osmotic stress can cause stomatal closure, reduced photosynthetic rate and growth inhibition.

Osmolytes found in Nutrimine have the ability to reduce the cellular water potential below external values, driving or preserving water in the cell, maintaining turgor pressure high enough to sustain growth.
